Ryokan = Japanese Onsen + Foods
Onsen/Hot spring (public bath) is one of the most popular and relaxing experience in Japan. It is natural, traditional, cultural, social and healthy gift of Japan that everyone enjoys. After 3 decades of living abroad, I have realized the extra-ordinary goodness of the hot springs. Japan is a classic disaster prone country located in the m
iddle of the “Ring of Fire” around the Pacific Ocean. Earthquakes, Tsunami and volcanic eruptions constitute fundamental building blocks of our living environment. The nature is so beautiful but often very harsh in Japan. It is the natural environment that has nurtured the unique characteristics of Japanese culture including Washoku (Japanese foods) and Onsen (hotspring). It is imperative for us to take full advantage of such rich cultural traditions of Japan as much as possible in the course of our life. Ryokan (Japanese traditional hotels) offers a combination of onsen often with
local natural views and gorgeous dinner using fresh local materials. It is a dream to experience all popular onsen spots in Japan enjoying local views and foods offered at those ryokans. Onsen and washoku are particularly well known to be good for health. It is a must to do in Japan and particularly, as we all age, it is most recommended for elderly and ailing people to go to onsen ryokan to enjoy a longer and healthier life. I and my wife brought our aging and ailing parents to onsen ryokan to enjoy the best of local culture and have quality family time.
