卓球王国：「しあわせの国」ブータンを訪ねる ~ インクルーシブ卓球交流 ~
月刊卓球誌「卓球王国」の新刊6月号に、私と八木選手のブータン訪問レポートが掲載されました。ちょうど10年前に、外交関係樹立30周年記念事業/Sport for Tomorrowで実施した日本卓球協会訪問団のレポートを立石アルファ選手が投稿し、掲載していただいて以来です。「卓球王国」のみなさまのご支援・ご協力に感謝いたします。
2月3日、早朝６時にバンコク発、約3時間でブータン王国のパロ空港に午前８時15分に無事着陸。ヒマラヤ山岳地の狭い空港であるため、天候の安定している早朝の到着便となっているそうだ。標高二千三百メートル、澄んだ空気、空が碧い、冬の寒さと直射日光の強さが肌にささる。ブータン卓球連盟のカルマ事務局長の出迎えを受け、車で1時間半ほどで首都ティンプーに着く。
今回の目的は、日・ブータン外交関係樹立40周年記念事業として、『ティンプーオープン卓球選手権大会』でのパラ卓球の部とベテランの部の新設・運営に協力することである。大会に先立ち、ブータンのオリンピック委員会、教育省、都庁、JICA事務所などを表敬訪問。教育大臣はスポーツ・体育の普及に熱心で「これは見逃せないイベントですね」と開会式のご臨席を快諾いただいた。
『ティンプーオープン大会』の会場は、卓球台を6台常設するブータン国唯一の卓球場であり、障がい者、学童、ベテラン、ナショナルチームの練習もすべてこのホールで行われる。専属のダラコーチとナムゲコーチは、2004年にブータンに赴任した田中の指導を受けた愛弟子でもある。
開会式では、教育大臣と卓球ファンである野党党首が始球式を行い「スポーツは、政治を越え、団結と感動をもたらす」とSNSで拡散。また、八木とブータンチャンピオン、パラ選手同士のエキシビションも行われ、その映像については人口70万人のブータンにおいて4.5万回という高い再生回数となり注目を集めた。
新設のパラの部には5名の立位の男子選手が参加。八木、田中でユニファイド・ダブルスにも挑戦した。女子の参加促進や障がいに合ったコーチングが今後の課題である。パラの部と同じく新設のベテランの部には、79歳の医師の選手をはじめ昔の卓球愛好家が多数集まり、健康と生涯スポーツへの関心の高まりが感じられた。
日本の皆さまからお預かりしたユニフォーム、ラケット、ラバーなどの一部を参加者や入賞者にプレゼントし、残りは卓球連盟にお渡しした（ご協力いただいた皆さま、ありがとうございました）。
大会も無事盛況に終了し、来年もまた『ティンプーオープン大会』で会おうと、ブータンの卓球仲間たちと別れを告げたのだった。

Spring, summer, autumn, and winter are the cycles of nature and life. Spring always stands at the opening, bringing hope and smiles. For us, the cherry blossoms are the wellspring of our love for nature. As we get older, we start counting not the number of years we have already watched the cherry blossoms, but the years left to watch them. So, let’s do our best to enjoy the new cycle: a lovely spring, a vibrant summer, a gorgeous autumn and a dignified winter!
「春の女神の宴」 日本では春夏秋冬で一年を、そして一生を現わす。春夏秋冬は自然と歴史のサイクル。春はいつもその始まりにいて、希望と微笑に満ちている。私たちにとって桜は、自然を愛でる心の源泉。人生の後半ともなると、これまで桜を眺めた数よりも、これから幾度眺められるのだろうか、という残り数で、我が人生の齢（よわい）を思う。また新しい生命のサイクルを楽しむべく、頑張ろう！
Defending championship at the Tokyo Open 2026/東京卓球選手権大会で二連覇達成！！
東京卓球選手権大会ローシックスティの部で二連覇を成し遂げることができました。
It was beyond my expectation that I could defend the last year’s title after three consecutive hard-fought matches. My respected friends, Mr. Wu from Shanghai and Mr. Kahara, are outstanding veteran players whom I feel, I can hardly win. This time, it was sheer resilience and determination that brought me the rare chance to obtain the final winning. It is always a pleasure to meet with friends of far distance, though facing them on the court is intense. I am grateful to have them as both friends and rivals.
I’d like to thank my teammates for their tireless support and encouragement. Wishing you all a wonderful day and a great weekend!
ブータン王国から2月２７日に帰国。日ブ友好協会の総会、訪問報告、そしてトプゲ首相来日歓迎会とめまぐるしい行事の中、大会に向けた練習を続けてまいりました。中国からの参加を含め強敵揃いの本大会で、とにかく眼前の試合に集中することだけを考えました。マスターズ決勝で敗れたばかりの山田選手との準々決勝が山場。前回よりも簡単に2ゲームを取られ万事休す。速い攻めに対してブロックとカウンターに徹して、そこから１ゲームを返し、４・５ゲーム目は１２-１０で本当にギリギリ、土壇場の逆転でした。準決勝の呉さんはペンの表と粒高の変則プレーで、裏面サーブと揺れる粒高ボールに翻弄される。お互いにサーブで取り合うパターンで２-２。５ゲーム目は攻めに徹して、エッジやネットの運もあって、薄氷の勝利。決勝は昨年と同じ華原さん。勝負の３ゲーム目を１０-７から逆転され１１-１３で取られこのまま負けてしまうかと思われた。6-8からの挽回で１１-8として２-２。華原さんのロビングに粘り負けることがあり、早めに思いきった攻撃をすることを心がける。今回の勝利は体力と気力とブロック力のたまものでした。
表彰台は昨年と全く同じ顔ぶれ。華原さんと呉さんとは、佳きライバル、尊敬する友人として共に精進していきたいです。非常感謝！！

Tshering Tobgayブータン首相夫妻の歓迎会/Welcome Luncheon Gathering for H.E. Dasho Tshering Tobgay & Aum Tashi Doma hosted by JBFA
日本ブータン友好協会で、ブータン王国のThering Tobgay首相夫妻の歓迎会を開きました。
３月１３日、ブータン王国のTshering Tobgay現首相と奥さまのTashi Domaさん御一行の歓迎昼食会を,日ブ友好協会で主催。Lasolaという市ヶ谷駅が最寄りのブータンレストランが会場。色とりどりのルンタ（祈りの旗）で天井が飾られ、仏教絵画や置物など、ブータンの風情いっぱいのレストラン。ブータン4代国王にいただいたGohという民族衣装をまとい、到着した首相の出迎えに際し、しきたりに従って、カダ（白い絹布）を前方に広げて捧げる。このカダを投げ広げるわたしの動作と「シュッ」という唇からもれる音が、トプゲ首相に気に入られて、もう一度やってみせよ、とアンコールを受けるという楽しいハプニング。20年来のつき合いであり、先月ゲレフで会って以来の再再会である。奥さまは、わたしのブータン駐在当時（2004-2008）WFP（世界食糧計画）のスタッフで国連の同僚だった。
参加者は、ブータン首相夫妻およびNamgyel大使等ご一行8名に、小野啓一駐インド大使、小島誠二会長夫妻を始めとする友好協会役員そして在日本ブータンコミュニティ（BCIJ）の若者たち6名。
わたしは司会役、まず小島会長が歓迎の挨拶と友好協会の活動を紹介。BCIJのピーターさんが日本に住むブータン人の矜持と心意気を述べる。訪日3回目というトプゲ首相が、400人という在日ブータン人の数は小さいように思うかもしれないが、ブータンにとってはとても大きな重要な存在であると応じる。ブータンレストランの存在をよろこび、ブータンと日本の外交関係樹立40周年という節目に、更に日本との絆を深め、Gelephu MindfulIness City (GMC)構想などへの投資を含めた経済交流を深めたいという訪日の目的を紹介。小野大使の乾杯の音頭で、日本のブータン料理の会食に移行。ブータン料理の道15年、開店して5年目の村上光店長にブータン料理の説明をいただく。ブータン人には一目瞭然、味も良いと喜ばれる。
首相は、在日ブータン人から日本での生活事情を聞き、厨房に入ってブータン料理の調理を見学。若者との交流と日本に息づくブータン文化の探索に有効活用していた。日ブ友好協会が40周年記念に合わせてブータン訪問する時期についても確認し、歓迎の意を表明。
最後に記念撮影をしてつぎの会合へと向かう一行をお見送りする。
短い時間ではあったが、ブータン首相御一行ととても和やかなAt Homeな時間を共有できたこと、友好協会としても意義のある、有り難い、メモラブルな昼食会となった。

Participation in Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) Volunteer Service/ゲレフ新都市での奉仕活動に参加
“Volunteer service lays the foundation for nation-building, Gelephu Mindfulness City, and the nurturing of spiritual bonds among people across the world.
I was fortunate—thanks to our TT champion Ugyen Tsering-san, an esteemed member of the National Council—to participate in the 5th Volunteer Service, which began with His Majesty’s birthday celebration in Gelephu. Over five hardworking days (2/21–25), I treasured the renewed friendships with both new and old acquaintances. Working side by side to tackle weeds, shrubs, and pests, I naturally grew close to my warm-hearted host, members of the National Council and National Assembly, the Prime Minister, the Opposition Leader, the Foreign Minister, the National Speaker, Desuups, NGO staff, private-sector employees, students, and many others.
The unexpected, warm-hearted, and deeply moving high point was an audience in the field with Their Majesties the Queen and the Queen Mother; their kindness and encouragement are forever engraved on my heart.
As one of 16,000 volunteers, I feel blessed and honored to have participated in this historic, transformative endeavor in the heart of the Himalaya. We know we become part of history, but it is rare and extraordinary to feel we are actively contributing to its making.

U16 Inclusive Training Camp and Competitions in Thimphu!!/16才以下インクルーシブ・トレーニングキャンプを実施
It is always wonderful to engage with youth, the future of our family and society. This time, we have organized the first inclusive table tennis camp with young girls and boys of Thimphu with or without disabilities. At the closing of inclusive competitions, we distributed uniforms to all the participants, and rubbers and some rackets to the winners. Those gifts are donated by friends of Japan, as one of the grassroots initiatives of sports community to commemorate 40th Anniversary of Bhutan-Japan diplomatic and friendly relationships.

今回、ティンプーの障がいのある子どもたちを含む１６歳以下の男女生徒を対象に、インクルーシブ卓球キャンプを開催いたしました。インクルーシブ卓球キャンプの最終日には、全員参加の競技大会を開きました。参加賞として参加者全員に日本の皆様からいただいたユニフォームを配り、勝者にはラバーや一部のラケットを贈呈しました。これらの卓球用具は「卓球王国」の呼びかけに応えていただいた方や九十九クラブの仲間、国際卓球さん等のご寄付によるものです。子どもたちにとっても、わたしたちにとっても、ブータンと日本の外交友好関係40周年の素晴らしい思い出と記念になったと思います。
みなさまのご協力に感謝いたします。ありがとうございました。

4日間にわたったティンプー・オープンが閉幕しました。パラ卓球選手やベテラン選手が集まった明るく健やか、楽しい大会になったと思います。とくに多忙なスケジュールの中、日本から参加いただいたパラリンピアンの八木克勝選手のプレーはみんなの注目を集めていました。すぐにブータンの食事や習慣に馴染んだ人懐こい人柄で人気者になりましたね。わたしも22年前にブータンに国連で赴任して以来、支援をつづけ育ててきた選手たちと再び白球を打ち合うことができました。日本のみなさまから頂いた卓球用具もブータンの卓球関係者やメディアが見守る中でBTTF への寄贈を果たすことができ、40周年に花を添えることができました。ブータンおよび日本のみなさまに感謝いたします。来年からは恒例イベントにして、毎年参加したいと思います。

Opening of the Thimphu Open shows the true spirit of sports as a bridge beyond borders. ティンプーオープン大会が始まりました。開会式にイーザンデタパ教育大臣が来賓として参加して下さいました。女性の現大臣と元労働大臣野党党首で卓球ファンのワンディドルジさんとのフレンドリーマッチが行なわれ、政治信条を超えて楽しく交流できる本当のスポーツの魅力が体現されて感動的でした。

Opening Ceremony of the 2026 Thimphu Table Tennis Open was conducted on 7th February, at 10 am (venue: Table Tennis Hall near Pema Secretariat Office, Chubachu). The occasion was graced by the Honorable Education Minister of Bhutan、H.E. Yeezang de Thapa. The Thimphu Open is being organized by BTTF and from Japan, Dr. Toshihiro Tanaka (vice president of Japan – Bhutan Friendship Association) and to the World No.2 para-table tennis (class 7) player , Mr Katsuyoshi Yagi from Aichi participated in the Thimphu Open. The Thimphu Open is held to commemorate 40th Anniversary of Bhutan – Japan Diplomatic Relation. A big congratulations and appreciation to all the participants and the organizer of the Thimphu Open Table Tennis Championship.

Practicing Ping Pong, Eating, Drinking, and Singing together!!
I visited Bangkok to meet with my friend, Van-san’s family and Deaf Table Tennis friends. I am currently visiting Bangkok to meet with my friend, Van-san’s family and Deaf Table Tennis friends. At a table tennis club in Bangkok, I practiced almost 4 hours with very enthusiastic good young and senior Thai players. Regardless of who wins or loses, we all enjoyed and became close friends. This table tennis room is a multi-purpose hall for dinner, bar and karaoke. Probably, it is a part of an Amazing Thailand. Thanks!! ขอบคุณมากครับ Khob khun mak kráp my friends!!
Season’s Greetings with Bhutanese Dance!!
In Japan, JBFA (Japan-Bhutan Friendship Association) celebrates Bhutan Day towards end December, in commemoration of Bhutan National Day (17 Dec). This year, it was held at Toyo Univ. on 21 Dec.. We watched an extraordinary movie of Bhutan, “The Monk and The Gun” in the morning, organized presentation and panel discussion on the way of life in Bhutan and Japan by youth in the afternoon, had dinner gathering with Bhutanese food and DANCING at the end!! It reminded me of my days in Bhutan where I made every effort to dance in Bhutanese way. A young Bhutanese lady was excited to find me there and said “pleased to meet you, TOSHI-san, you wrote the lyric of Dreams of a Rural Weaver”. At my time in Bhutan, UNDP had projects supporting rural weavers and fashion shows. Above all, I organized UN Dancing team, Happy Academy of Performing Arts (HAPA) and our first original song that I wrote and danced was “dreams of rural weavers” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FvfFCs0Edg
She was born in Koma, a rural village famous of weaving. Her mother was the top winner of Bhutanese traditional weaving at the national Fashion Show organized by the Queen. Wonderfuuul story. “The Monk and The Gun” also reminded me of our collaboration with the Election Commission for the first democratic election in 2008.
As we move on from 2025 to 2026, let’s dance with people we love taking the best and happiest steps forward.
