ブータン卓球連盟に卓球用具を贈りました！！
Today, to our TT friends of the Kingdom of Bhutan , a boxful of table tennis materials donated by ping pong friends of Japan through World Table Tennis (卓球王国）was handed over to a shipping company. Those materials will be utilized under the oversight of the Bhutan Table Tennis Federation (BTTF). I have been working with BTTF since 2004. It is always a big pleasure to be part of an endeavor to increase happiness (GNH) of the youth, boys and girls, and those who, otherwise, are not having access to sports. Thanks & Be Happy!!
卓球王国を通じてたくさんの卓球用具のご支援を、海を越えた協力活動にご賛同くださった皆様からいただきました。今日は、いただきましたラバー、ラケット、ユニフォーム、ボール, シューズなど計25kgの卓球用具をダンボールに詰めて、国際宅急便でブータン王国の卓球連盟に贈りました。ブータンには卓球用具は存在せず、買える子供もいないので、貴重品です。ブータンの子どもたちが卓球競技に親しみ、大会等に参加するための大事な一助となります。またブータンを訪問して短期指導したいと思います。
本当にご協力ありがとうございます。
次はミャンマーへの支援を考えていますが、おそらく自分で持っていく方がいいかと思っています。今後ともよろしくお願いいたします。
ペルーの子どもたちに卓球用具を贈りました
Today, I shipped a boxful of table tennis materials donated by many ping pong friends of Japan through World Table Tennis (卓球王国）to ping pong friends, boys and girls of Peru. We have a very producive and trusted collboration with Liyau Foundation (Mrs Monica Liyau) with the objective to help advance sustainable development goals (SDGs) through prividing children in various corners of Peru with opportunities to practice table tennis. It is a very small act but we believe it is a meaningful step toward the right direction.

Silver at the Tokyo Table Tennis Open Tournament
It was four years back I won the game with Mr Wu (呉四海) from Shanghai, China in this tournament, then lost. We promised to play at the final in the next tournament. After four years (we become 60’s), today, due to Covid, we finally played at the final of Tokyo Open. This time, Mr Wu won the championship by 3-2. It was hard to reach the final, and the final was even tougher. At the end, we all won the friendship. Isn’t it NICE!?
４年前の東京選手権大会のときに４回戦で呉四海さんと対戦して大熱戦で勝ちました。私は優勝を目指していたのですがベスト８止まり。呉さんと、次の大会では決勝で会おうと約束しました。コロナ禍で久々の東京選手権、６０代になった二人は再会して、決勝で会う約束を果たしました。今回は、裏面にイボ高を貼り、多彩な裏面サーブとイボ高と表ラバーをくるくる回して前陣速攻する呉四海さんの戦法に合わせきれず、３-２で呉四海さんが優勝。おかげで上海卓球協会の副会長という呉さんに上海に招待されました。卓球が結ぶ友情に国境はないですね。
みなさん、応援ありがとうございました。これからも精進いたします。

２月２１日発売の「卓球王国 4月号」に私のインタビュー記事が掲載されました。Another Storyということで、めずらしく４頁にわたる卓球の技術ではない人生航路の話になっています。卓球王国を始めた発行人である今野さんと、これまでの卓球や人生談義でもりあがって、卓球と国際協力への思いを、熱くまとめていただきました。卓球のメジャーな雑誌に登場させていただくのは、人生の中でも初めてのことで、身に余る光栄です。みなさまのご声援やご協力に感謝いたします。唯一の卓球雑誌である「卓球王国」の今月号をご購読いただけるとありがたいと思います。
２月２１日はブータン５代国王の誕生日で、ブータンやチベットの新年Losarでもあります。幸福量が一気に増大する日ですね。

On the happy birthday of Bhutan’s 5th King, 21 Feb, Japan’s popular magazine “World Table Tennis (卓球王国)” published my interview article in their 4/2023 edition. The 4 pages’ article is a recognition of my consecutive championships in the All Japan Masters, and is a big encouragement for continuing my ping pong life for increased happiness in our society. Thailand Open Masters Games 久しぶりの国際卓球交流・タイオープンマスターズ初参加・初優勝
Wonderful friendship and championships at the Thailand Open Masters Games!! スポーツを通した国際交流はいいですね！！
“We are the champions” in the team event of men 60’s, and I also got the gold medal in the men’s singles in the same category. At the final match of the team event, I was the last player losing by 0-2 games. People in the hall was excited and cheering up the Thai player who was about to defeat a Japanese opponent. It was a matter of a pure luck that a tide of the game changed. My coming back to get 3 consecutive games brought a champion trophy of men’s team event to Japan team. There is a short movie of the game and prize award ceremony of our game below (in the middle of the movie at aroung 5:00 min)
Similarly, the goddess of victory kissed my racket in the thrilling games of 3-2 with Hong Kong player and the final with our team mate, Tachibana, in the men’s singles.
With or without a trophy, it was a wonderful moment of life that has brought instantaneous and natural friendships among players from different corners of Asia including Thai, Hong Kong, Myanmar, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Korea, China and Japan.
I would like to express our heartfelt thanks to our Thai friends, particularly, Van-san and Charlie san, as well as the organizers of Thai TT Association for their love to sports and extraordinary hospitality. Last but not least, my sincere appreciation goes to Kahara (華原）san for leading us, and Nishida (西田） and Tachibana（立花）kun for their great company. We all are looking forward to the next gathering of table tennis friends without border.

ネパールのみなさんからの感謝のメッセージです。「パラスポーツでみんなが幸せな社会をネパールで実現しよう」というキャンペーンを支援させていただきました。皆さん、ご協力ありがとうございます。
2021年を振り返って
２０２１年一月。東京パラリンピックが目前となってくる中、ある選手の親からの手紙を理由に、知的障がい者卓球連盟のコーチ業務からはずされる。コンプライアンス委員会による調査が開始される。
コロナ禍にあって、卓球の練習の中心が、湘南台の家の近くにある岸田卓球クラブに完全に移行する。早朝のサーブを中心に一人でする多球練習を組合せて、プラスチックのボールの飛び方の感覚を身につけるように努める。練習する人も場所も減る中で、MD相模の橘川さんが練習に誘ってくれるようになり、週に２回ほど、主に午前中に練習するようになった。
２月５日。ペルー体育庁とペルー卓球連盟との共催で、Zoomを使った「障がい者のためのスポーツ」セミナーの講義を行う（スペイン語を使用）。地球の裏側のペルー国の、スポーツ関係者ら多数の参加者と直接、意見交換を行う。
２月１６日と１７日。ミャンマー日本人学校の生徒たちに、Zoomでゲスト講師として課外授業を実施する。小学生向けには「パラリンピック：障がい者卓球の世界。ミャンマーの障がいを持つ子供たちと卓球しよう」。中学生に対しては、「自分探し、人生探し：初心忘るべからず」という内容で話す。ヤンゴンと日本に分散して、いつ教室で会えるかもわからない子供たちと先生たち。それぞれが真剣にミャンマーの状況と向かい合っている。不思議な心と心の出会い。
３月２日。東京選手権大会がキャンセルになった代りに、東京卓球連盟が、東京優勝大会という年代別大会を東京所属の選手を対象に開催する。５０代に参加した私は、準々決勝でカットの斎藤選手に３-１で逆転勝利、準決勝で（前回大会で逆転負けした）森園選手に３－０で雪辱できた。決勝は、右ペン表の名手、野中選手との対戦となる。以前０-３で敗れたことがある。サーブの回転やタイミングに合わせることができなかった記憶があり、今回はバックプッシュでレシーブから攻めていく。逆に私のサーブが効いて３-１の逆転勝利。この大会全体を見渡すと、勝敗を分けたのは、Covid-19の時期にどのように過ごしたかの違い。練習できていた人が、その成果をみせ、練習できなかった人が、その対価を払った。
４月２３日。日本スポーツ仲裁機構のパネルが、最終的な仲裁判断を下す。私の申立てが全面的に認められる画期的なものとなる。
５月９日。SDGｓとパラリンピックについて、友人の新井和雄ガバナーより招聘を受け、茨城ロータリークラブで講演。貧困削減や人道支援ではなく、なぜスポーツ支援なのか、という質問または疑問が出される。スポーツや文化は人間の権利であり、幸福の種なのだ。
５月１８日。国連時代の環境及びNGO関連プロジェクトの現場経験から、外務省国際協力局気候変動課の担当する「脱炭素技術海外展開イニシアティブ」の外部審査委員会の委員に任じられ、その第一回会合に参加する。
５月２３日。藤沢卓球選手権大会。チーム戦で優勝。
６月６日。クラブ選手権大会、東京予選。ダブルスが不調で苦戦。決定戦は、卓楓会。前回も敗れている強豪。今回は、八城選手が加わって、更に戦力増強している。１-２で、最後は椋ー八城戦と私と飯田選手。椋君がジュース・ジュースの大接戦で勝ち、私がなんとか勝利して代表権獲得。チーム戦ならではの総力戦の感動的な試合だった。
７月１８日。全日本マスターズ東京予選会。順調に勝ち上がり、全勝で予選通過。
８月１１日。PCR検査を１０日に藤沢駅前で受ける。その結果が早朝に出る、結果は陽性であった。
８月１７日。コロナ自宅療養が解除され、通常の生活に戻る。
８月２８日。東京パラリンピックで卓球の知的障がいクラスにおいて、神奈川県鎌倉市在住の伊藤慎紀選手が銅メダルを獲得する。
９月１１日。全日本卓球選手権大会の東京予選に出場。実業団や大学選手のプレーに接して、いい体験勉強になった。早稲田大学およびシチズン時計の後輩の応援。
１０月８-１０日。全日本卓球選手権大会マスターズの部（６０歳以上）に参加。準々決勝で坂本選手に生まれて初めて勝利。準決勝でいつも練習している橘川さんに３-２の接戦で勝利。決勝は江浜選手。１ゲーム目を１５-１７、４ゲーム目を１０-１２で落とすも、３-２でど根性の勝利。全日本で初優勝を遂げる。
１１月２８日。初めて大阪マスターズ卓球大会に参加。５０代の部で、第一シードにされる。５０代の選手に勝ち抜き、決勝では、またも６０代で年上である坂本選手との対戦。全日本の雪辱をかけてきた坂本選手に対して１-３の逆転負け。フォア前への鋭角なサーブ、回り込んでバックストレートのスマッシュ。どれをとっても精度が高く、かなりの練習量を感じる。東京選手権大会での対戦が楽しみ。
１２月５日。中野卓球選手権大会、一般の部に参加。決勝まで進むことができた。準優勝。若い世代の卓球への適応力がついてきた。
１２月１９日。ブータン祭り。「ブータンのスポーツの未来」というZoom座談会で、「ハピネス・ファースト」のスポーツを目指すことを提案する。そして、「ハピネス（幸福量）を増やすためには、最も置き去りにされている障がいを持つ子供たちにスポーツを届けることが、一番効果的な方法である」という信念をもとに、これからもパラ卓球の支援活動を続けることを伝える。
“We Can” Project for Children with Disability
Table Tennis Academy in Yangon, have started “We Can” project in collaboration with Aye Myittar Center for Children with disability. The “We Can” project is the follow up to my initial sporting interventions with the Aye Myittar Center starting in 2019. So far, we have donated many used uniforms, some table tennis rackets, a hundred of used rubbers, table tennis balls and two table tennis tables to the center. We also introduced “Takkyu Volley”, which is an adopted game for children and people with severe disabilities.
It was in March, 2020, volunteers of YU Table Tennis Club joined this initiative to provide coaching support to those children of Aye Myittar Center.
Since then, Covid-19 has been preventing people from moving and most activities had become inactive. In addition, the security situation has also deteriorated.
Today, a hope has returned to the children with disability in Aye Myittar Center to have an access to opportunities to learn how to play table tennis thanks to the newly started Table Tennis Academy.
One coach and a player with disability from the Aye Myittar Center for children with disability has just started a weekly table tennis class at the Table Tennis Academy through “We Can” Project.
It is our sincere hope that the coach and the player will become the first role models to pave the way for other children with disabilities to enjoy sporting, table tennis, through the “We Can” project.
Bhutan, Lunana, A Yak in the Classroomn (ブータン 山の教室）
Today, I watched the movie from Bhutan “Lunana, A Yak in the classroom”
I lived in Bhuan for 4 years during 2004-2008 serving in the United Nations Development Programme. I did visit a various corners of mountainous terrains of Bhutan in a Toyota land-cruiser plus on my foot as most project villages are located at hours of walk from the jeepable roadside. At Lunana village, we have got an important project ““Reducing climate change induced risks and vulnerabilities from glacial lake outburst floods (GLOF)”. But, I could never visit Lunana as it was by far remotest area of Bhutan where we need to climb snow-capped mountains and walk more than a week to reach. Today, I finally saw the harsh but beautiful natural landscapes of Lunana and its people. The song and dance they enjoy with the breathtaking nature, green, white and blue, at the background sounds very familiar and my eyes were flooded with water coming out of my heart.
When I listened and learned the meaning of the song that a Yak herding lady sings to devote to all beings and souls around their world selflessly, I was struggling not to disturb others by my sobbing. It was a story of Yak and a Yak herder. Without Yak, the villagers at highland cannot survive. Sometime, they need the meat of a Yak. They gather all Yaks of village and throw a hat. A hat fall on a Yak whose life and body will be sacrificed for the whole villagers. The song was written by a herder whose Yak was sacrificed, and he sings for the soul of Yak who is probably reincarnation of someone and will be reincarnated again in the Himalaya. Therefore, the Yak in the classroom demonstrates a symbiotic relation between the nature and the human-being as well as between the real world and the spiritual world.
I think the most eye-opening parts of the movie are those with a little cute girl, Pema Zam. Her eyes are shining black, curiously-open, and eloquently storytelling. She is a symbol of love, both human and natural. Her pure and fragile heart is just like our beautiful planet in face of the climate change due to the greedy human activities.
The movie gave me an impulse TO ACT.
The village elder says, “a teacher (knowledge) can touch the future”.
Our responsibility as adults and fortunately educated is to let the children touch the future.
And we should “leave no one behind”.
The movie has brought me an idea of a new project for Lunana and Bhutan to create a network of online library that reaches the children in the remotest areas. Probably, we need a hundreds of set comprising solar panels, smart phones or tablets, an internet connection or if otherwise, a CD/memory tips of hundreds of selected books. It is doable at this era of the IT development including developing countries.
Then, I wish to visit Lunana and meet Pema Zam and every children.

Received wonderful messages of girls and boys from Peru. They are participants of the Impactando Vidas program run by Monica and many self-motivated staff. Those children are the beneficiaries of our donations: uniforms, rubbers and other table tennis materials. In the video, 60 children are at the inauguration of a TT class at the Capacitation Center in Ica province, with the proper precaution protocol against COVID-19. The winners of the Art competition received uniforms and rubbers. Then, the coach demonstrated how to put a rubber on the racket and conducted a variety of exercises. Children are active, joyful and thankful. They say…
- Ana Cristina: I like this sport because it is very interesting, beautiful and enjoyable. I am very thankful.
- Erimariela Flores: I appreciate very much Impactando Vidas program because it has given me the opportunity to practice table tennis.
- Diego Arcos: I thank for the donation of the sport goods for us and I will continue the training of table tennis
- Danna Mendoza: I thank the IV program and Sra. Liyau for the support to the adolescents of Peru and teaching about the value of sport.
Another video shows the way how the program staff and Monica examine and classify donated materials for boys and girls and place the donated materials into a nice bag as prizes for participating children. It is hoped that such an impactful program of disseminating the opportunity and the value of sport will grow further to reach those children, who, otherwise, are left behind.
ペルーの子供たちからのメッセージ
これまでペルーには4回ほど皆さんから頂いたユニフォームやラバーなどを寄贈しています。そのペルーの「人生にインパクト・プログラム」を運営しているモニカさんから、子どもたちのメッセージが届けられました。コロナの予防対策をとりながら、ペルーの地方(イカ県)にある訓練センターで60人の子どもたちが卓球クラスに参加しています。このプログラムでは私たちが寄贈したユニフォームやラバーを仕分けして包装し直して子どもたちに大会の賞品などとして配っています。このクラスでは卓球の絵のコンテストで入選した子どもにユニフォームやラバーが配られました。子どもたちからのメッセージ：
- アナ・クリスティナさん：卓球はとてもおもしろくて、美しくて、楽しいスポーツです。ありがとうございます。
- エリマリエラ・フローレスさん：卓球を習うことができてうれしい。「人生にインパクト」に感謝しています。

このような素敵な活動がどんどん世界中で広がって、世界の片隅で、スポーツから「取り残された子どもたち（SDGｓ）」に届くといいですね。
